We Are Comadres.
Be inspired. Be engaged. Care & be cared for.
Cultivating a more caring and resilient community by preventing harm, interrupting violence and bridging meaningful opportunities to engage, learn, collaborate and connect.
About Us
The Comadres’ mission is to create and provide a range of opportunities and services within the intersecting fields of health, education and social action to support a more resilient and empowered populace.
Through our women’s shelter, community library, herbal apothecary, and the events we host, we offer places where people can be inspired, be engaged, care and be cared for.
Connection and love are at the heart of what we do and why we do it. When people feel seen and supported, cycles of harm lose their power. When we learn and practise together, resilience takes root. And when the community is strengthened, everyone has a better chance to thrive.
Health. Education. Social Action.
Community Library
‘Moody, witchy, warm, cozy, amazing, inspiring…’ These are some words that have been used to describe our beloved library. Come browse our unique selections for adults, teens & children, all of which can be borrowed for free by simply signing up with the Comadre Librarian onsite. The library is currently open to the public on Wednesdays from 10h30-17h. Come have some tea, shop at the onsite organic farmer’s market with the Compadres and take home something special to stimulate your mind.
Herbal Apothecary
We are building an integrated herbal medicine clinic and herbal apothecary where soon the community can purchase ethically sourced, organic and locally grown herbs. We will also be offering private consultations with both medical and traditional herbalists. Come by to see the current selection, to chat about herbs and potions and to take a self-guided tour around the farm.
Events & Workshops
Our events are produced on site by the community and for the community. We prioritise events in the broad fields of education, health and social action and most of our events are hosted by women. Have an idea for a workshop or event? Let us know! And check out our events page to learn, grow and enjoy together.
Be Welcomed.
Library Opening Time: Wednesdays from 11 to 17. (Closed until January 7)
Events on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Casula
Casula is a one of a kind, farm and community based shelter for women and their children who are seeking sanctuary from domestic / intimate partner abuse or violence.
In addition to receiving personalised support, residents are able to participate in any of our community offerings hosted by Comadres including the larger workings of the farm. We intend that this provides a place to rest, heal and be supported which is as cozy as it is inspiring. Because all of us deserve to know the beauty and power of feeling safe, respected and valued.
