About: A tall, soft, woolly biennial herb, 0.6-2 m high. The first-year plant forms a rosette of large felted leaves; the second-year plant produces a tall flowering spike with bright yellow flowers.

Parts used: Leaves and flowers. Leaves are usually dried for teas. Flowers are typically infused in oil for topical use.

Traditional uses:

  • Demulcent and expectorant for hoarseness, bronchitis, coughs, and colds

  • Older folk uses include asthma, tuberculosis, and chest complaints
